Creative.Life.Support will be hosting a Revival Showcase at Mr. Smalls Theatre on Friday, March 28th, 2014 featuring Drowning Clowns with Lush Budget, Pure Cane Sugar, Nacosta, Thieves & Gypsys, Mike Why, and Nathan Zoob!
Drowning Clowns is a Pittsburgh-based psychedelic rock band whose music has been best described as a cataclysmic mix of rock, indie, americana and electro-pop. Over ten years, Mike Speranzo has slowly groomed the Drowning Clowns debut album “All That’s Covered Over” into an elaborately orchestrated musical catharsis with his wife, Liz Berlin (of the multi-platinum band Rusted Root). What began as his own musical haven has turned into an impressive & diverse collaboration of several prominent Pittsburgh musicians – including: Frank Spadafora on lead vocals, guitar & organ, DC/Element/Independent pro skater Evan Smith on vocals & guitar, Glenn Strother on lead guitar, Levi Graft on keys, Jesse Prentis on bass, and Shaggy Marcello on drums.
Lushbudget (St. Petersburg, FL) is an all original rock and roll vintage machine. covering a diverse range of styles from Pink Floyd-esque cinematic epics to straight-ahead rock and roll and americana. the latest release, The Poison King is a continuation of the Matchbox EP, a selection of tunes representing the group's live approach. After just a few minutes at a Lushbudget show, the listener is aware that they are witnessing something different. Lushbudget's sound is vintage, with a rock soul - and an ethereal presence.
Pure Cane Sugar's (State College, PA) sultry voices, soulful harmonies, and powerful lyrics, evoke exquisite vocals. When all three songstresses, Kate Twoey, Molly Countermine and Natalie Race, combine as Pure Cane Sugar, the result is "an assemblage of masterful melodies and haunting harmonies that inspire sweet dreams". With accompanying artists Jason "Junior" Tutwiler on slide guitar and Daryl Branford on drums, their original, artful arrangements are captured on a backdrop of textured synergy and rhythm.
Nacosta (Los Angeles, CA) is a psychedelic-rock band that was formed in 2011 by brothers Brandon and Shane Graham. After years of playing in different bands, the time was right for them to form a band together. They were fortunate to share a similar vision for the band’s musical direction as well as influences, which include Elliott Smith, Tame Impala, and Wilco. Nacosta’s sound is based in rock but pulls strongly from folk, psychedelic and electronic music.
Thieves & Gypsys (Santa Fe, NM) is an indie rock'n'roll band. They started in early 2011 in a small town in New Mexico, crammed in a smaller room where Jared Garcia and Dave Vigil elbow to elbow penning out small songs in hope of expanding and making their world bigger. The band emerged once they added bassist Aaron Jones. The trio would soon begin work on develpoing a sound that they would call wavepop and catch the ear of the world.
Mike Why (Pittsburgh, PA) Mike Why is a local live looping artist. He combines passionate vocals with every sound you could think of to create driving originals and inventive covers all made from scratch. 100% LIVE. 100% HUMAN. That's Mike Why.
Born in NYC, Nathan Zoob has lived and played in Pittsburgh for nearly seven years. Equally comfortable playing folk, rock, blues, indie pop, and soul, he is this town's GO TO guitarist and arranger (do not look into that last statement in any meaningful way please).
